How To Button A Cardigan – The Style Rules For Looking Good In A Cardigan

I do really like to wear a button up cardigan. I think they’re stylish, and you can create so many outfits wearing them.

A lot of the time you’ll want to fasten it, but what’s the etiquette?

This is how to button a cardigan correctly, and be stylish at the same time.

The rules for buttoning a cardigan can be thought of as the same as the rules for buttoning a jacket.

That is, you leave the top button undone, and the last button undone.

When fastening my cardigan, I have left the top and bottom buttons undone which I think looks more stylish.

Leaving the bottom button undone does has a function. This is for when your standing up and sitting down, so the bottom of the cardigan is cut away and is less likely to bulge.

There’s not really a reason to have the top button undone, but I think it looks better. Having the button undone just gives off a little bit more style and mystique to your outfit.

You can of course button a cardigan all the way up, but most of the time I don’t.

You can also wear it fully open, if you want to show off your under layer more or wear it almost like a jacket.
